For many years, I have had plans to expand my recording studio and adorn the main recording room with a world class concert grand piano. I have played many grand pianos over the last few decades, including the iconic Steinway D. However, since learning of the Shigeru Kawai range, I have fallen in love with the stunning Shigeru Kawai SK-EX concert grand and have decided it will be my piano of choice in my new recording studio. Less than twenty of these beautiful, hand crafted pianos are built each year by master piano artisans for the entire world.

This video is the beginning of documenting both the design and construction process of materializing the new studio and the acquisition of my SK-EX concert grand piano. Two days ago, I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Josh and his grandfather, Neville, at PianoMax in Adelaide and discussing the genesis of my plan. I took along my Sound Devices 788T audio recorder and Rode Soundfield NT-SF1 Ambisonic microphone and recorded this improvisation on the SK-6 orchestra grand piano, the smaller brother of the mighty SK-EX.
